| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Ferncroft lot was empty today. Only four other vehicles when I arrived at 9:45AM and fewer when I left at 2:30PM. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Ice - Black, Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Leaves - Significant/Slippery, Snow/Ice - Small Patches |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
The crossing on Dicey's Mill Trail was only slightly elevated. I picked a path across rocks and kept my feet dry in Gore-Tex mid Hokas. You could also cross on the log if you're into that kind of thing. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
BLT and Rollins are clear. There are a few smaller blowdowns on Dicey's Mill but easy to get around. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
The ledges may be difficult for some dogs, I'd assume they'd all need help on a few of the steps. Only two pups seen both were just doing Passaconaway via Dicey's Mill Trail. |

| Comments: |
BLT was practically snow / ice free until around 2,700 ft. which is about where I put on Hillsounds. Decent snow base after 3,000 ft. Approaching the ledges there are ice flows but the ledges themselves were a mixed bag. Skirting around the rock to the big step was just wet with hints of black ice, softer blue ice in sections after that. Where there wasn't ice there was wet ledge. Rollins was a sidewalk but there are numerous sections of blue ice flows. The narrower sections (where it drops off the side of the trail steeply into the bowl) had some significant ice flows and could be an issue if not paying attention. Ascending Passaconaway on DMT there are more ice flows but soft enough to get a good bite. Descending down DMT the snow /ice disappears around 2,700 ft. then it's just wet leaves and minor sections of mud.
