 | Comments: |
It had snowed the day prior, so there was a nice coating on the trail the entire way. I barebooted up Jewel to Gulfside. I did put spikes on once because I was slipping a little, but they balled up so fast in the sticky snow that they were more trouble than they were worth. I put snowshoes on on Gulfside, and kept them on until the descent when the snow all became slush. Several inches of snow along the ridge, with deep drifts here and there. No one else had been up there, so I was just following cairns, but with the amount of heavy rime and snow on everything, it was often hard to differentiate with the boulders and scrub trees. So don't necessarily follow my trail up there ... especially not on Clay. |
