Comments
Comments: Trail is well maintained. There is much eroded braiding with the old (and muddy) parallel firewarden's road as people have been avoiding the ice on the marked trail.

We took this route as the most expedient means of getting Chris's 52nd 52WAV peak, given the mud reported in alternate approaches and the incoming rain. Congrats, Chris!

While on the summit we watched a most impressive training mission by a NH National Guard helicopter crew, landing on rugged Firescrew nearby. It began raining as we neared the car on our return.

The middle segment of the trail in the woods had an icy, but softening, wide monorail and we used spikes there for probably 1/2 mile. Others were getting by without them, mainly by going into the muddy woods as needed.
