Second time (of three) on Waumbek that a dog has approached me and immediately gone into a low growl; I don't think I give off bad vibes, just some funk from my jacket... Not a way to win me over to the "I love dogs on trail" crowd. |

Just like last weekend, wrapped up three days of so-so hiking, with a little progress made towards both my goals (one much more pressing than the other). Dragged myself out mid-morning for a drive to Waumbek, where there was just enough new snow past the 1.5 mile mark to make a very pretty scene. Bareboots most of the way; spikes useless, but worth having some beaters in the pack for later in the week. The bottom portion of the trail was, to quote an acquaintance, "soggytown". Breezy to and fro, with intermittent snow and freezing rain, and more graupel (one of my favorite wx phenomena) in one 3hr 40 min period than I have ever experienced.
Headed to Bryce Path (Cathedral Ledge) afterwards and walked a mile up the auto road, enjoying the quiet light snow, to find a delightfully dry Bryce Path, which I needed for the priority goal. Late afternoon views were lovely. |
