Comments
Comments: Well, it seems that all the hikers went somewhere else on this beautiful Saturday, because only 3 people shared the trails with us today, including not a soul on the summit of the good Reverend Hale's mountain. This was my first time up the Fire Warden's Trail and it is a great option! Beautiful birch forest along most of the trail, and a long gradual approach. One blowdown area up high offers a beautiful view of the Presidential range. Even with the fresh snow this past week, snowshoes were not required. We used spikes once the snow started around 2900 ft. A hard crust about 3 inches below the granular upper coating held our weight unless we ventured off the trail into the forest, where you may or may not find yourself up to your knee in a hole. It's hard to believe that in a few short weeks we'll be sweating and waving away the biting bugs...get out there while the getting's good!
