Light traction worked fine today. Old packed snow about a half mile before reaching Lonesome Lake, bareboots were fine. Put on spikes for Fishin' Jimmy, ice and snow, well packed and no monorail forming yet. There were a couple of ice flows at the two steep parts but they were not difficult to get up, and it looked like there were easy ways to get around them if you need to head off into the woods.
Kinsman Ridge Trail is a little choppy but mostly well packed between South Kinsman and Coppermine Col. One nasty hundred foot stretch of ice through the steeps just below Hi-Cannon junction, bypassed around it off to the right then angled our way back to the trail, Sarge needed a boost here. Would recommend only experienced shoulder season pups for this section.
From Cannon Mountain summit we easily descended the ski trails down to the parking lot and hooked onto the Pemi bike path back to Lafayette Place.
Quiet Sunday morning along Kinsman Ridge, good views and saw only a couple of other hikers. |
