Zealand Rd is completely snow/ice free. 2 trees down blocking road, as well as others that need to be cleaned up. Many trees down on Zealand Trail, trail has snow/ice. Climb up to hut icy but many rocks to step on. Dropped gear at hut as we spent the night. Snow/ice all the way until the last bit coming off Mt Bond. Trail was solid under mushy snow, we had no issues. Could have used spikes coming down from Zealand, couple of real icy spots but we were so tired we went for it. Beautiful views today, only saw 9 all day. Some in spikes, snowshoes or bear booting. Bondcliff & Zeacliff are snow/ice free. Long day but so worth it. Buried a few beers in the snow, enjoyed those with dinner sitting around the woodstove in the hut. Great day to be out. Thanks to Kevin for going on this epic hike! Big moose was spotted near the ponds on Zealand Trail. Gone when we went past. |
