| Comments: |
Descending from Wild Cat A to Carter Notch was extremely treacherous. Steep with loose snow and plenty ice. Our micro spikes were useless. I would recommend crampons or maybe snowshoes with good traction. Actually, i just wouldn't recommend the route until it's melted a bit more. Even groups ascending were struggling.
I'd say we hit just about every spring trail condition on our Wild Cat Ridge Traverse. We climbed the ski trail to Wild Cat D. Snow and ice but fine with micro spikes. Conditions changed considerably past Wild Cat D on the Wild Cat Ridge Trail with much more sticky snow and few steeper sections of blue ice. Sun was in and out, incredible views. A nice spring morning.
Again, descent to carter notch was hazardous. Exited via 19 mile brook. Some broken/breaking monorail near Carter Notch, but was mostly clear and even dry for the last 2 miles. |
