Comments
Comments: I would NOT recommend anyone do this trail until the snow has melted. The last mile and a half to the summit along the top of Shelburne Trail and length of Kenduskeag was a brutal slog through ankle to knee-deep soft snow with constant postholing. This trail doesn't get enough winter traffic to pack down the trail so the surface was too soft to hold our weight in the 50+ degree weather. Snowshoes would have been nice for this but with lots of rocky ledges and scrambles, as well as some completely dry sections, you'd have to take them on and off a dozen or more times. No snow at all until about 2/10 before the Kenduskeag junction. The first three miles are pleasant then it gets kind of rocky and very wet before you run into the snow. Some nice waterfalls along the trail with all the snow melt and rain of late. Beautiful views from the summit areas.
