They were definitely swarming when the breeze died down, but aren't too bitey yet. I picked up my first tick of the season on Hubbard. :( |

A beautiful afternoon on Pitcher Mtn. and Hubbard Hill along the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway. The fire tower on Pitcher was being staffed today (the fourth day in a row due to high fire danger), and the warden invited me into the cab. While we were chatting, a call came in over the radio about smoke in the Gap Mtn. area. Unfortunately, nothing could be seen as Gap Mtn. lies behind Mt. Monadnock from this vantage point.
Other than the warden, we saw no one all day, even though a few other cars were in the lot. Everything is bone dry and the hotter temps coming this weekend aren't going to help. Stellar views from both summits. |
