Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Crossing at base of trail was not dangerous but water was high. Definitely got boots wet.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: At noted previously Castle Trail below tree line is a hot mess. Lots of blowdowns, some herd paths around, some climbing over, some ducking under. With the blowdowns came a ton of debris.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Alfie went up this thing like a boss. No issues with any of the steep scrambles, up or down. Err on the side of caution for sure before taking your pup up this trail.
Bugs
Bugs: SO MANY BLACK FLIES. Even above tree line, no wind meant they stuck around. It was way worse than I was expecting.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing of note.

Comments
Comments: So, Alfie and I went up for sunset on Jefferson to grab it for his 48. The trail is a beast… especially right now. A lot of ice beginning at second steep climb until beyond tree line. Alfie was perfectly fine, microspikes sufficed. No postholing on this section because it’s all frozen. Pretty dry above tree line except for the typical spring wetness. Coming down was much harder than going up, very steep, very slippery, I had some bite but not much. We took our time and made it down reasonably well (Alfie was actually fine the entire way, I was the one struggling). I counted over 300 trillium trail side at lower elevation. Also trout lilies beginning to bloom.
