I also decided to avoid an expected posthole event on the Carraige road. The ice starts just after the last bridge, I barebooted to the cut view but should have put it on earlier. Definitely spring conditions. The monorail is really not elevated but step off to the side and there is potential for postholing. I kept traction on until I finally broke out of the woods within sight of the summit. While heading down I met a couple of underequipped late day groups. IMO barebooting without traction would be difficult especially since its easier to go uphill on slippery stuff then heading down.
No doubt plenty of folks will be heading up this weekend and more than a few will regret not having traction |
