Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Crossings were slightly elevated but I missed the downpours, and was out of the woods by 2. So chances are they rose through the day.

Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Great trails for dogs
Bugs
Bugs: They were worst at the trailhead, and on the summit ledge of Paugus. It was so hot in the woods that it kept a fair amount of black flies at bay.

Comments
Comments: Eventful hike up to the 52 with a view Paugus. Trails were in great condtion from start to finish. Bolles and Bee-Line Cutoff are gems, and I look foward to doing some trail bagging when the bugs leave. The Bee-Line trail is definitely no nonsese (but pretty) trail with steep grades and few switchbacks. Few leaves on the trees make things extra hot this time of year! It is lightly trodden, so keep your eyes open for the treadway, and blazes. After a well deserved break at the junction of Old Paugus trail, I made my way to the south summit. Views from there were amazing as always, but the black flies and possible threatening weather kept my stay short. Clouds had bubbled up stalled over the summit, so I figured something was going to pop soon. Sure enough, about 20 min after leaving the summit, the thunder started rumbling. I never got rained on, but I am glad I got out of there. The trip down Lawrence,(one small snow patch) to Cabin was fairly uneventful. I was paying more attention to the thunder at that point. Whitin Brook trail was a great way to descend because the footing was soft the whole way down. Once I got into the valley, the sun came back out and it was hot. The stream crossings were sort of annoying if you were trying to keep your feet dry, as there weren't really any good rocks to hop. After the Whitin trail, it was a quick 1.5 mile walk out Old Paugus and Bolles. The moment I stepped into the parking lot, the thunder started. Good timing!
