Day 196, Peak 188. 1st hike of the day. Started at about 1:15pm and the real rain hadn’t started yet and the vegetation was mostly dry which made for a pleasant enough hike.
Follow the road shown on Gaia south of the peak and diverging from Success Pond Rd for about 1/2mi. It descends some and leads you a bit further away from the peak but another, more overgrown, skidder road diverges right and you can follow it to within about 0.1mi of the peak. It does continue from here but this seemed like a natural spot to me to start whacking and I don’t think following it any further would’ve gotten you closer to the peak. I travelled NW to the summit, mostly in hardwoods. Woods were fine. There’s a little blowdown cluster right at the highpoint and the bright orange canister is next to it. I signed in and returned the same way in some light showers.
The hike was 2.25-2.5mi with about 450ft of gain taking me just over 1hr to complete. 169 more days and 177 more peaks to go… |
