| Comments: |
A two day report starting with a failed crossing of the swift river. Opted for a road walk eventually ending up on Rob Brook Road and taking an unsigned birch hill trail which seems like a ski or snow mo trail. connected to Sawyer Pond Trail and road taking old fr85 which is quite overgrown but still has a decent path to follow with the exception of several blowdowns. Barebooted to Mt Carrigain with some monorail
and a couple icy spots near the top. Highly recommend micros descending Desolation as there was still significant frozen water flow. Carrigain notch trail was just astounding as always. Shoal Pond Trail was quite wet and lives up to its soggy reputation.the multiple broken bog bridges add to the excitement. Barebooted until Mt Willey were it was an on and off relationship with the micros with several sections of narrow semi supportive monorail. it was nice chatting with the couple on Shoal Pond Trail as well the couple on Ethan Pond Trail. Overall this was a new and interesting backpacking route off the trails less traveled |
