Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Tuesday, May 24, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Lincon Woods is a large fee lot. The toilet facilities in the building were closed. There are four porta-potties. In the evening there were many sawhorses set up in the parking that had signs prohibiting parking subject to an $80 fine. Perhaps parts of the parking area are cordoned off for construction (not sure).
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Small Patches
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Osseo Trail has at least a dozen tree falls across the path that were all easy to step over. Many of these were small enough to be cut with a small saw (didn't have mine today). Bog bridges uphill from the stairs are worn. The stairs are in good condition.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw one dog. The ledges just below the Mt Liberty summit may require some assistance for some dogs. Not much water on this route.
Bugs
Bugs: Almost none until around 5:00PM down low near the river. Even then, it wasn't too bad.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found:

Comments
Comments: Most of the path is very dry. The few spots of mud were mostly dry with a consistency like putty. There was one very small wet mud spot above the stairs on Osseo that had roots and sticks to assist in passage.
No snow or ice on the Osseo Trail. Only small patches of snow/ice on Franconia Ridge Trail with one stretch of about 50 feet in the col that can be negotiated without traction.
Great views from both summits and the downlook on the Osseo Trail.
The spring flowers were not profuse; however, I did see Lady's Slipper, Bluebead Lily, Painted Trillium, Hobblebush, and Shadbush. Saw no Rhodora flowers yet.
Met many hikers who came up Osseo, Flume Slide, Liberty Spring, and Old Bridle (Lafayette to Liberty).
