 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked at Quintown Rd trailhead for the Kodak trail. There is room for a few well parked cars. Before you drive up the final hill to park, there is a decent hump in the road that a low clearance car might scrape. I have a Hyundai accent and had no issues...just drove slowly and carefully. The cross rivendell trailhead looked full when I got there, and there was one truck parked along the rd. |

It's been over 10 years since I hiked the Kodak trail to Cube, and I wanted to check it out. This is definitely the most scenic way to the summit, with several viewpoints along the way. I started up Quintown Rd, then made a left where the AT crosses. From there its a quick, stiff climb to the Eastman ledges...great view of Smarts and its satellite peaks, as well as into VT. After the view, the trail drops down to Jacobs brook, and then meanders easily uphill to the Hexacuba side trail. I didnt go today, but make sure you visit if you have time...where else can one find a penta-privy? Anyways the Kodak trail alternated between easy,to steep, up and down some nice view ledges and deep woods, until suddenly I was at the south summit. The wind was cool and stiff. I headed over to the North Peak for what are in my view, the best vistas on the mountain. Then I came back to the south peak, relaxed a bit and then headed down Cross Rivendell. I've done this trail many times, and made it back to Baker Rd in under an hour. The rest of the way was new territory for me...I walked down Baker rd towards Quintown rd. It eventually turns class 6 (respect private prop signs by the house at the end of the maintained section). I ended up doing a bit of a bushwhack to attempt to save some miles for my walk on Quintown Rd back to the car. I popped out right before the bridge (about 0.1) from my car. Looks like I saved about 0.7 overall. Not bad! Great day! |
