Date of Hike

Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Mt. Clinton Rd. is in poor condition, full of lumps where the pavement rises a few inches (frost heaves, I suppose), so many that they are impossible to avoid; there are also some small potholes; expect to drive no faster than 15mph on this road. Along this road, we parked cars at the Edmands Path Trailhead and the Crawford Connector Trailhead (also known as Mt. Clinton Rd. parking area, near Rt. 302) - at 11am both lots were full and overflowing with cars along the road.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The crossing of Abenaki Brook on Edmands Path can be crossed by careful rock hopping; there is also a log but it's not clear that it is really helping. The bridge across Gibbs Brook on Crawford Connector is in excellent condition.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Edmands Path has been well taken care of, with water diverted off the trail as well as could be hoped, though it does have two blowdowns, one about 1/4 of the way up and the other about 1/2 of the way up - the latter is causing a herd path to form. On Webster Cliff Trail just north of Mizpah Spring Hut, the lower of the two ladders (really more like staircases) is a hazard - its rungs tilt when stepped on! Also on Webster Cliff Trail just north of Mizpah Spring Hut, there is one place where a blowdown was sawed in half, but one of the halves creates a hazard by sticking out into the trail at head level. There is excellent work on Mizpah Cutoff to divert water off the trail at regular intervals, but there is still a lot of water on the trail; I'm not sure that much more can be done.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: These seem to be good trails for dogs, and we saw several, though Webster Cliff Trail just north of Mizpah Spring Hut is quite steep with two short ladders.
Bugs
Bugs: Some wasps on the Mt. Eisenhower summit cairn. Many mosquitos at the trailheads, and some along the lower parts of the trails in the forest. At higher elevations, there were occasional small clouds of tiny insects (harmless, I think, though you might want to keep your mouth closed when passing through them!)
