Picked up 1 tick on the temporary trail, Browntail moth caterpillars hanging in the trail all the way up to middle mtn. They are doing a number on the leaf cover… total decimation in some areas… very sad. About .03 mile on connector trail I heard 2 very loud rapid hoots that stopped me in my tracks, I looked up to my right and a very large Barred owl was starring at me… I backed away and admired it for about 5 minutes. It never moved and kept its eyes on me. I’ve heard of owl’s swooping at people to protect nesting area’s so I decided to skip on Peaked mountain and head back the way I came. So if anyone is venturing out on the middle mtn-peaked mtn connector trail keep an eye out for a Barred owl in the area. It was right at the spot where there is a little water/bog section…. |
