Comments
Comments: Had a car spot for this one and was glad as once I hit treeline coming off Success, the conditions became slow with a lot of wet rock, mud, and some standing water most of the way to Austin Brook. While the trail in of itself is not technical, allow for extra time to give your patience time to breathe, especially given that this is all downhill. Gentian Pond shelter was quite lovely and had it to myself. Austin Brook has one boggy/overgrown section that is quite lovely -- many butterflies, dragonflies, and a snake or two. Plenty of bog bridges along the way. The clear cut portion of Austin Brook is a bit grim, but landowners have the right to do what they want. Heading up Dryad Fall, the trail was essentially a clear cut road, with poor footing in spots. Dryad Fall itself was a trickle, and top half Dryad Fall trail was a little bit overgrown (understandable with logging operations) with hobblebrush. Turned right and made a loop, getting the remaining piece of the Mahoosuc trail I needed, closed another tab, and back out Austin Brook. Generally pleasant headed north and Austin Brook from the bottom of the logging back to the vehicle was a nice roadwalk with wild strawberries along the way.
