Trails
Trails: Mt. Tecumseh, Sosman Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, June 25, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Surprisingly not a problem. We got a spot in the lot at 10:30 and there were two cars parked on the road. (Contrast this to Osceola which had cars lining the road for a quarter mile in both directions.)
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The only two were easy rock hops.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Few blowdowns near the top, but mostly trimmed back so they can be stepped over easily by anyone taller than me.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Lots of pups out today. Ours made some friends on the trail.
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies were pretty ferocious above about 2700 feet or so and they got worse as the day progressed.

Comments
Comments: We had planned to do the Osceolas today but took one look at the crowd and opted for Tecumseh instead which was pleasantly uncrowded. There must have been close to 80 cars parked along the road and in the lot around the Osceola trailhead. We had visions of standing in line on the trail like you see on Everest these days. No thank you.

Bugs were awful again above about 2700 feet and got worse as the day went on. But I’d rather fight bugs than do the stuff I need to do around the house.
