Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking at the end of Carter Notch Road in Jackson. Nice parking area with room for maybe 8 to 10 vehicles. Cars parked along the road on my arrival. I didn't see any hikers on the ski trail all day, except for a Wildcat employee cleaning up trash near the top of the trail. Everyone must have been headed up to the Hut.

Comments
Comments: First time that I did this from the south using the ski trail. Five miles from the parking lot to the D summit, according to my GPS. Nice mellow trail the whole way. It was a nice alternative to the other routes. The vegetation is getting high in places, but I had no problem keeping on the trail. The signage at the bottom is really good, with maps at each intersection with "You are Here" arrows. So getting on the right trail is pretty easy. The only tricky section is through the birch glades. Just keep to the right along the treeline while ascending and left descending. Even with high vegetation growth, the trail is still discernible. Just look ahead for tell tale signs of previous hikes were the grass has been moved, and also for the small blue diamonds on the trees. Once past the glades (which isn't very far), it's a piece of cake. Lots of hikers at the observation tower today.
