Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: If you want to park at the popular trailheads (White Dot, Old Toll Road/Halfway House, Birchtoft, etc) you'll need to go to the state park website and make a reservation. For everything else, parking is ad-hoc. May the odds be ever in your favor. For the Gap Mountain trailhead area, things were very straightforward. Lot is clean and well maintained.

Comments
Comments: When you need something that gets you out of the house, but you don't want the commitment of a bigger hike, think local. And when you need to be alone, think away from the big trailheads. A mid-afternoon start meant most people were long since off the mountain; the summit was populated for sure, but not at all crowded -- people spread out and were mostly quiet. A bit strange for the 4th of July weekend. Picking the M-M trail meant I didn't see a soul until I was at the summit, which was pretty awesome. Again, pretty unusual for this weekend in particular.

Photos and a detailed trip report are on my blog as always.
