 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
$5/person hiker fee - we parked at state park HQ then walked the road for 0.25 or so past the toll booth, where a staffer flagged us down and insisted on our fee. First time for being stopped that way, although she did mention that free sites were available. No one was staffing the parking lot so we thought it was free to hike and you only paid if you parked at the beach. |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail |
 | Recommended Equipment: |
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
there are none save a dried up brook about 0.5 mi north on Mountain Tr. |
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
erosion evident on S. Ridge but fine |
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
saw several. Erroneous info exists on several blogs that dogs are not allowed. Leashed dogs are indeed permitted on the trails, just not in the campground or the beach. |
 | Bugs: |
avoided bug spray until almost near the junction of Mountain Tr. and S. Ridge Trail, after which the gnats and mosquitos were too annoying to avoid it. |

 | Comments: |
Nearby errands and limited time necessitated a closer to home trek for us this weekend, and S. Pawtuckaway fit the bill. We'd done this loop 4x before and had wished to do something new, either Middle or North, but logistics were not our friend so will have to wait for next visit. First time for us that that fire tower was open - staffed weekends, according to the lovely gentleman there - although only 1-2 people could fit at a time. Wonderful views esp west to the Wapack ridge from Wachusett, Watatic, N. Ipswich right up to Pack, N. Pack, Monadnock and Crotched Mtn., and north to Blue Job and others. |
