From Rt 3 in Pittsburg, drive Indian Stream Rd for a couple miles, then turn left onto Comstock Rd for several miles before turning left onto a spur rd shown on Gaia that follows Schoppe Brook (not shown on Gaia). At a fork in the road almost 1mi in, bear left go follow tributary brook and follow the road to its end S/SE of the peak. Indian Stream and Comstock Rd are in good shape and should be drivable with care by low clearance vehicles. Comstock Rd a little less so and it does become a little rougher as it goes on. The spur rd has a grassy center line and is probably best left for mid-clearance vehicles. 2WD should be fine. Room to park at the end of the road. NOTE that Comstock Rd just beyond this spur rd is closed for repairs due to wash out. Sounds like it should be reopened in a couple weeks at most. |

Day 257, Peak 254. 2nd hike and 3rd peak of the day after the two Cowens.
From the end of the road, I took a bearing to the peak and headed up. Rather than stick to my bearing though, I kind of naturally ended up on the southern ridge of the peak which I then followed to the summit. Mostly open woods, nof much in the way of wetness or brush, and easy-moderate grades. Not hard to find the register. I took a more direct line back toward my car closer to a drainage. Not as pleasant walking and had some wet footing. Shorter hike though.
Hike was about 1mi, had almost 300ft of gain, and took me 45min to complete. 108 more days and 111 more peaks to go… |
