Comments: A MAGNIFICENT day in the forest was had. To borrow the State motto from out Eastern neighbor, the Pine Tree State, today was 'The Way Life Should Be.' We walked about 100 yards northerly, down slope of Cap's Ridge parking lot and entered the woods. Through the entire whack, we had really great woods. Very much a Goldilocks's type hike, not too high, not too low, but if you hit it just right, its delightful. If you LOVE to cross contour or side hill, you're going to absolutely love this one. It's got your name on it, Sidehill! I almost wish I had a pair of hiking high heels so my downhill leg would be a little longer. Hiker Trash chic, yaaaa! We made really short work of the whack, reaching the summit in pretty decent time. It is marked by something that used to belong to a Moose, though it seemed a higher location is just nearby. We only encountered a few blowdown spots, these are jungle gym type fun, of which you never know just how close or far off the ground you are. It adds to the delight of it all. You have to be a little bit of crazy to just walk into the woods, take a compass a bearing, and just start walking. Through the whole day, the lofty stone sentinels above kept a watchful eye on us, that of Adams proper, and Abigail, Jefferson, Clay, Washington and Monroe, making themselves visible every once in a while. We decided (by we I mean Nordic_Gal decided for me) that we would also go for Millen Hill, a NH200, as it was "right there" - off we went. Still good woods here for the most part. Coming off Millen, we opted for a more direct route to the Cap's Ridge Lot. The most direct route is almost never the best route. This last 200 feet was the hardest of the whole day. Stopped over to pay homage to the sagacious Ethan Allen Crawford's final resting spot in the Crawford Family Cemetery. A chilly dip in the Ammo after (FIVE MORE MINUTES NORDIC_GAL! FIVE MORE MINUTES PLEASE!?), followed by ice cream sandwiches, and pretending to be a baby bear picking blueberries from the bushes. I did a whopping 1/250th of my NH500 list today. Woo!! Truly the way life should be!
