Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Hayes, NH
Trails
Trails: Centennial Trail, Mahoosuc Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Tuesday, July 26, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking for about 3-4 cars on Hogan Rd at trailhead. We were first car at 9:30am, then 4 cars rolled in right after us (they were a group). We all fit. Two large puddles on Hogan Rd, the smallest car in the lot was a Prius, so it made it through them unscathed.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail in good shape, dry, great stone stairs (morning stairmaster). The one large blowdown about 1.5 mi up Centennial Tr was cleared, thank you.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Good trail for dogs (none today), no water though, so pack plenty.
Bugs
Bugs: Little no see-ums here and there, not a consistent problem. A couple flies started buzzing when the sun came put mid-day. Used bug spray but it was probably unnecessary
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: n/a

Comments
Comments: Several people on the trail today. One group of 10, a couple solos, one group of 5. For AT hikers about 4 NOBO and 3 SOBO. Encountered someone every 10 mins or so.

Burn area (between about 0.6-1.0 miles up Centennial Trail) starting to green up in spots, not a problem for trail navigation. Still giving off a charred odor.

Great views of the northern presies and more from the ledges 0.3 mi past the summit of Hayes. Neat glacial erratics and ledges along Centennial Tr. Lots and lots of blueberries ready to eat! Save some for the critters though!
