Comments
Comments: Route:
Jewell trl > Gulfside Trail (AT) > Trinity Heights Connector (AT) > Crawford Path (AT) > Mt Monroe Loop > Ammonoosuc Trail.

Jewell Trail: not blazed. Simple to follow footbed. Lovely, moderate grade to higher elevations. Great, distracting views above tree line.

Gulfside: carins mark the way as this segment is above tree line. Simple to follow. Fairly decent footing. Talus field on a moderate grade.

Trinity Heights: carins and intermittent standard white blazes mark this short segment to the summit of Washington. Talus field for the entirety.

Crawford Path: this is the AT and is marked by large carins topped with white quartz. Rugged descent to Lakes of the Clouds Hut. Sooooo much better in winter. I’m just sayin’. Very busy trail today.

Mt Monroe Loop: not blazed. Simple to follow as its straight up to the summit. Two funny ladies wearing t-shirts saying “It’s another 1/2 mile or so.” Carins mark the way. Please note the unofficial “rule:” up has right of way. Spread the word…

Ammonoosuc: dude. I should have ascended this trail and descended Jewell. But, this is the direction I travelled. I’d only done this trail one other time in a January. Man, I miss that snow. So much easier! The 1st mile of descent is very steep with many, many rock ledges. Who knew? There are also gorgeous waterfalls. Never knew they were there either… This trail is well blazed in blue with arrows marking tricky turns. Many a persons and dogs met on this trail. Thank you all for your patience and courtesy to each other. Super fun to have met two fellas from Austin, TX. Keep Austin weird!!
