Today was a strong reminder to those who have not prepared for winter hiking that now is the time to start carrying the extra layers. We had a wonderful preview today on this hike. We were very comfortable with the sleet at the summit and the snow squalls on the way down with fleeces and a waterproof jacket. Recommended equipment should now include a couple of warm layers, hat, mittens, and just basic winter gear-just in case. Not many folks were prepared for the cold weather or the icy precipitation today. |
