From the parking, I walked up the Class VI portion of Lamson Rd. up and over the nondescript summit of McCollum Hill. I continued on past a cell phone tower to a height-of-land, then hopped onto a couple of unmarked bootleg mountain bike trails. These took me up to a stone wall that indicates the New Boston/Mont Vernon town line. Here, there's a sign and cairn for Wilkins Point, the high point of Mt. Vernon.
I considered bushwhacking up to nearby Storey Hill from here, but the woods beyond the stone wall were logging regrowth and didn't look like fun. |
