Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked at the western trailhead for the Table Rock Trail. Large dirt lot with plenty of room. Only car there at 8:30am. Just one other shortly past 12:30pm. I was surprised there weren’t more!
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: I’m not sure there were any! If there were, they were obviously east enough as not to be memorable!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The western section of the Table Rock Trail was not signed at its start and not marked either with the usual numbers I believe, until most of the way to the top. I don’t recall any blowdowns but that doesn’t mean there weren’t any! Wide and eroded. The CT, is narrow and overgrown at times in this section and not terribly well trodden. It could possibly be hard for a beginner to follow. Also, it was very wet and it seemed at times that it may not be so wet nearby. Perhaps they’d reroute it?
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Other than on the geographic feature, Table Rock where I certainly wouldn’t want them, seems like a fine hike for dogs. Just be careful of ATVs and such.
Bugs
Bugs: Minimal to none
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None

Comments
Comments: Day 315, Peak 293. 1st hike of the day. Let me begin by saying that there is a much easier way to hike this. Drive up the access road to the windmills from Rt 26 to about 0.1mi within the trailhead where there is a gate. I’d assumed you couldn’t get that far up the access road and got it in my thick head the easiest way to bag this peak was the way I did. Had I done my due diligence, I would’ve saved myself the time and tackled this peak the easy way. Oh well. Table Rock was nice to see again and I’ve hiked another section of the CT.

The CT in between the ski area and Table Rock is perhaps the most consistently muddy and wet trail I’ve ever been on. The mud wasn’t usually that deep but it was pervasive. I can only imagine what this is like when we rent in a drought or in spring. The CT is generally less blazed than other sections of it I’ve been on in the north country through here and the ski area which was overgrown but easily walkable. You’ll continue on a foot trail between the ski area and the col between the ski area peak and Dixville. Here, it dumps you on onto a muddy ATV trail. Ascend the ATV trail to 3100ft where you can either take a herd path or overgrown ski trail or something SE (left) connect quickly with the wind farm or continue S/SW along the ATV trail and connect with the access road and take that to the top. I did the former for my ascent and the latter for my descent. Highpoint is right next to a windmill on top of an area they’ve blasted out for it. No register.

I returned the same way down except that I followed the access road to the top of the ski area instead of hiking the wet and muddy CT back over to Table Rock. This involved a short road walk as well. Note that you couldn’t park here as the road to the ski area is clearly signed as not to be driven on. The hike was roughly 7.75mi with 2000ft of gain. 50 more days and 72 more peaks to go…
