Lots of this trail is on slabs of rock, some of which were wet especially closer to the summit. Makes them slippery and worthy of caution. Overall it is not a difficult trail except for those spots. First two miles to Mount Surprise have a rather gentle slope. It gets typical White Mountain steep from there, but nothing risky in dry conditions. We could walk down over the rock slabs, and if uncomfortable with that one can always butt-slide. I find that is safer than the herd paths on the side. Views were among the best in the Whites, and we also caught some ice on Washington. |
