Comments: “There are a lot of sticks trying to trip me”

Trails were in good shape for two crazy red liners. Haystack Notch was fairly dry despite more recent rains. Definitely a lot better than we expected. The footbed is good to follow, just pay attention. Few random bootleg cairns made throughout the trail that were pleasant reminders that we were indeed going the right direction. When heading East, after entering the old cut someone created an arrow on the ground with rocks. It should point toward you, and you should go right (south/southeast). We walked straight for a little bit before turning around.

We hiked only the first portion (2.4 miles) of Miles Notch. This trail stays in shrubbery type land for the first half, well signed to diverge into the woods and stays gradual. Last half mile or so till to the junction of Red Rock was steep. I wouldn’t want to play around here during hardcore tick season! We grabbed nice cold water while heading out on the lower section to filter for the car ride home. That was sooo good.

Only ran into one person ever the whole time, someone who had driven up to the gate to walk the .1 for foliage photos near the Haystack/Miles junction. We were surprised to say the least for a Monday!
