| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
From Rt 26 in Errol, follow Coarser Brook Rd North for a little more than 6mi. I’d think this would be doable by even low clearance cars as it’s a wide dirt road in good shape though it has some pretty rocky spots when it goes up and down more steeply. Cross a bridge, then turn left onto Greenough Pond Rd. Follow it for another 2.5mi or so. Here, what I believe is still Greenough Pond Rd bears left and Roaring Brook Rd bears right. I bore left to stay on the road and followed it for a little more than 5mi to a jct, passing north of the Nathan Pond Ridge Peaks along the way. This road was in good shape all in all but had a nice big muddy puddle below one of the Nathan Pond Ridge Peaks… I think it was the SE one. I was a little nervous to drive through it so I went up along the side of it which tilted my car every so slightly. I wouldn’t do this with a low clearance car. After the 5+mi, I bore right onto the road that heads north and passes by Blue Ridge to the west. Note that it shows on Gaia as one continuous road all the way to the way I accessed NW Crystal but it becomes totally overgrown and undrivable at the point where the spur rd shown on Gaia diverging to North Blue Ridge is shown. Because the other road is not drivable, you’ll come naturally on to this spur rd. The road continued beyond where Gaia shows it but is only suitable for ATVs/UTVs here due to its roughness and being very, very muddy. Good place to park here. I don’t think I’d take a low clearance car on any of these roads beyond the muddy puddle beneath Nathan Pond Ridge. Mid clearance should be okay. |

Day 336, Peak 320. 3rd peak of the day after the 2 Crystals. From my parking spot at elevation just shy of 2500ft, I walked SE into the woods on a bearing. Thought there was logging around here, as far as I recall, I didn’t really have to go through any brush. That said, this may have been the peak where I hit thick hobblebush a sun young growth down low. As if often goes though, as the grade steepened, the woods became a nice softwood forest. After a stiff hike up, I hit the summit ridge in its NW corner and began a long walk along the ridge to the highpoint. Woods were pretty good and there were some herd paths. Not too hard to find the canister; just took awhile to get to :)
I signed in and returned down but staying just west of the spine of the summit ridge. I continued to be amazed by some of the beautiful herd paths through here. Once I hit the NW corner of the summit plateau, I followed my ascent line back down. Gaia had me at about 1.5mi with 600ft of gain. It took me 1.5hrs to complete. Love these old registers…almost as much stopped time and moving time, lol! 29 more days and 45 more peaks to go… |
