Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of parking at the large lot at 9am on a beautiful Tuesday. When we returned at 4PM we saw cars parked alongside the road meaning the lot was full at some point during the day. There were parking spaces available in the lot at 4PM.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: There are three water crossings on Champney Falls Trail, one immediately after the trailhead crossing Twin Brook, the other two on Champney Brook all easily hopped in these dry conditions.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: These trails are in great shape although blazing is old and hard to follow on the rock ledges. There are cairns on the ledges to assist with route finding.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: There is some water in Champney Brook which can be accessed for the first 1.5 miles after that water is minimal. So bring extra for your pup. Lucy was the only dog on the summit today and handled the last scramble to the summit with a bit of a push. :-)
Bugs
Bugs: None.

Comments
Comments: A surprisingly mild and beautiful October day for these peaks. We thought today was the “Peak Foliage Day”, if there is such a thing…LOL. Great hike with Pemi Valley Hikers. Lots of folks having a fine time hiking. Champney Falls were beautiful with Pitcher Falls even better! We took the Champney Falls Cut Off trail to Middle Sister where the views were enhanced by the vibrant fall foliage! We found the trails to be moderate all the way to the cone of Chocorua. Piper Trail from the intersection with Middle Sister Trail is somewhat difficult to follow. The blazing is faded but there are a few cairns to help with route finding. Things get spicy with some rock scrambling up exposed ledges with tremendous views of the White Mountains! When you get to the cone, look carefully to the right. You will see an easier trail to the summit which avoids some difficult scrambling, much more dog friendly, too.
