Very enjoyable, gradual hike along the Whiteface River & the fall colors were starting to really come out! The trail is poorly marked between the McCrillis Trail intersection and the last 2 river crossings (wilderness area), but it's well-worn. One section reroutes the trail briefly and is marked with a large pile of branches. There are arrows on the trees on the other side of the river after crossings. Encountered only 1 group on our way up, and probably 7 or so around the pond, some of which had camped the night before. Very peaceful, beautiful spot! The trail around the pond is flat, but narrow with rougher footing, so fairly slower going than expected. Most people out were doing the loop down Bennett Street Trail; we did an out and back. Overall a great, remote-feeling hike and we plan to return with a tent next time! |
