 | Comments: |
Initially planned two other treks but when Franconia Notch and Cherry/Owkshead had rain, And when the hubby suggested a Plan C agenda of a visit to the Polish Princess Bakery just to enjoy the foliage, who could refuse? The sun came out in Lancaster so we headed over to the Percy’s. Far more manageable crowds and fortunately the rains held off on the run up the steep summit cone when it began lightly sprinkling. We headed down quickly and even when the rains started the canopy of trees shelter that’s enough that it wasn’t bad at all, apart from the usual leaf slipperiness factor. Although the last time we did the full loop, Due to the rain we did it out and back.
Even with clouds and gray skies the brilliant foliage made the hills on fire - full and stunning peak foliage, and you could still make out the line of Franconia Ridge Kinsman Ridge and the Mahoosucs despite an increasing line of clouds. The rest of the world seemingly joined us in NH today as we had a 45 minute traffic jam through the notch as the three lanes dropped to one.
