 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Brought my crocs with me, so for almost all of the notable crossings, I just switched shoes instead of wasting time trying to find a dry crossing, especially since I did all of the crossings on Castle Ravine Trail & Israel Ridge Path after dark. Certainly makes crossings easier. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Don't think I'd take our dog on The Link... all those hollows are pretty sketchy. Castle Trail & Caps Ridge also have numerous scrambles -- not suitable for all dogs. |

Beautiful day out there! Went up Castle Trail to Mt. Jefferson summit -- great trail, lots of rocks & scrambles, but all dry today. Then did some circling around Jefferson: came down Caps Ridge, east on the Cornice, north on Gulfside, up the last 0.3 of Six Husbands back to the summit of Jefferson and then back down Caps Ridge. Always a joy to play above treeline on a gorgeous day like this one. Going down Caps Ridge was slow as expected... then took The Link from Caps Ridge to Castle Ravine Trail... and did not expect that trail to be SO slow going! Not kidding about "countless treacherous roots, rocks, and hollows that are tricky and tedious to negotiate" -- fun & wild, but SLOW! (Also fell a couple times on The Link.. seems a little inevitable on this trail.) Also somehow forgot that the sun sets early this time of year... so did the last 4 miles down Castle Ravine>Israel Ridge>Castle Tr in the dark. Footing on Castle Ravine south of The Link was lovely though. Had a tad bit of trouble finding all the river crossings in the dark, but thankfully the crossings are very well signed & blazed. Couldn't be bothered to spend time looking for dry crossings and didn't want to risk anything in dark so put on my Crocs for all crossings. Stars were lovely, and night hiking is always fun in it's own way, but was a little sad to miss the riverside views. All in all - great day! |
