 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
I am the trail adopter. The West side is completed for the season; I just adopted the East side this week. On the East Side, 7 blowdowns (which is all of them) removed, 6 waterbars (which is some of them) cleaned. This was also a reconnaissance mission for the East Side, LOL. There are three more massive drainages to clean, there is running water on the trail that might be improved by similar cleanup. There are muddy sections that also might be improved by cleanup. Blazing is needed in the wooded sections and I talked with Bailey USFS Saco) and she approved cairns for the Ledges. There are not readily available rocks for the cairns so building them will be a bit of work. A little bit will happen before the snow flies but most of it will be next year! |

A fine day to hike the UNH Trail to Hedgehog via the clockwise route. We went this way so that we could work on that big blowdown on the East side right near the loop junction. We have it cleaned up such that it’s now an easy duck under, and the Forest Service is aware that a chainsaw is needed to remove what is left.
There is some mud and running water on the east side, the west side is mostly dry.
We saw dozens of happy hikers, today. Some had been on this terrific hike before, but most were first-timers! |
