Comments
Comments: Day 358, Peak 349. 1st of the day. Beautiful morning. There are (I think relatively new) no trespassing signs from other points of access that others have gotten this peak from in the past so unless approaching from the CT from the north, this would seem to be the way to get it. I followed a route very similar to twinkle toes route who was the last person to hike this peak and post here.

Unlike twinkle toes I foolishly followed Sanguinary Ridge Trail for more than a few feet than had to cross over the steep ridge to the other side. Don’t do that. Parallel the road relatively closely. Woods will suck and you’ll be in a sidehill for a bit but it’s short lived. If you stick low and close to the road, you’ll hit an old ski trail that looks like a road somewhere around 2000ft. This is roughly in line with the northern end of Lake Gloriette. Because I stuck higher on my way in, I didn’t hit this trail until a bit higher unfortunately. The road is becoming overgrown but provides good walking other than one short stretch where’s it’s more overgrown and there’s some prickers. The trail heads north, then NE to the SE corner of Lake Abeniki where it comes into a clearing. You can either walk the spur road to the dam to the main road from here or walk a herd path just below it. I then followed the main road for 0.1-0.2mi north before turning left and entering the woods. This is just south of an open area shown on Gaia. A little bit of brush along some old roads here but generally open woods. Also, there was a legit road in here I could’ve followed but it seemed to be descending.

Anyway, I whacked due west from here up to the summit ridge. Woods were open but the grade obviously became quite steep. I approached the summit more directly than twinkle toes did. I didn’t hit much in the way of cliff bands or anything but still very steep. I stayed just north of the cliff bands. A little scrambling was involved getting up to the ridgeline. Woods thickened a little too. I then walked the ridge SW to the highpoint which is on the SW knob. Spine of ridge had some blowdowns; some nicer walking was to be had closer to the cliffs. Not hard to find the red payer if you know which bump it’s on (CalTopo has it correct).

I returned the same way but staying lower and closer to the worse down low. This was better going but you’ve still got some thicker stuff to go through as you near Rt 26. Gaia had me at 3.25mi with about 850ft of gain. It took me 2hr 45min to complete. 8 more days and 16 more peaks to go…
