Winds were a challenge and biting at times but not bad in the trees. The sun was very welcomed when it came out but thin clouds moved in and out in the afternoon. Very brisk on Jackson and Eisenhower, spent only 5 minutes on J and managed 10-15 minutes on Ike enjoying the views. Trails were overall in good shape - a mixed of wet/dry with sloppy spots here and there. The heavily traveled Crawford leading down to the Highland Center was its usual mucky self. I had solitude all morning until I met Hannah from VT halfway between Pierce and Eisenhower (she reports ice and a few falls she had on Ammo yesterday). She's finishing 45, 46 and 47 today and getting 48 tomorrow - congrats. Then a young lady from Portland on Ike who got her second and then fellow gridder Suzanne from Londonderry followed by Ron and Rita from Shapleigh ME, 87 and 84 years young. And finally Fuzz on my descent. Really nice chatting with all today. |
