 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Peabody Brook Trail was the only one with issues. A few scattered blowdowns. Blazing could be improved. The upper portion of the trail needs the hobblebush and spruce trimmed back. Along the stretch of bog bridges prior to Dream Lake, several of the sections are broken. |

Continuing my list of new-to-me places ...
The ledges on Bald Cap Peak are fantastic, but Peabody Brook Trail is quite a stiff climb to get there! Glad to see the new ladder that replaced the old broken one. From the spur path to the ledges I did a short, steep bushwhack up to the high point of Bald Cap Peak. No register.
Dream Lake is another terrific spot with a unique view of Mt. Madison from the east end. Very quiet and serene here.
On the way down I took the spur to Giant Falls. Aptly named! The falls are very high and there was some flow today. Also lots of nice cascades and waterslides along Peabody Brook that are visible from the trail.
Everything was very dry and I took the descent slow and steady due to the treacherous leaves. Unseasonably warm today. When I started it was 35 degrees and I like that better. ;) |
