Comments: Ascending Jackson is what it is - a rocky trail with infinite step ups and rocks to meander over and around. About 3-4 inches of fresh, unpacked powder. Only 1-2 people had hit the trail before us (at 8am Friday). The scramble at the top of Jackson was a pain. Whoever was in front of us bushwhacked around the scramble (which led directly into the krumholz) and left the main trail unbroken (on the ledge section lots of people hate). Eventually we figured it out, broke the trail to the summit and got around it. It was definitely a struggle.

Trail over to Pierce was unconsolidated and our hillsound spikes were constantly getting balled up and coming off. Made me wish I had carried my showshoes, but the trail was still bony and wet and in the bogs it was easy to slip off and dunk your leg calf high into semi frozen mud. We were all pretty beat up by the footing, so we skipped summiting Pierce and took the Mizpah cutoff down to Crawford Path and then road walked back to our cars.
