Comments
Comments: A beautiful day for a hike! Trail conditions varied from bare ground to a couple inches of snow, depending on altitude and sun exposure. While I carried microspikes I never used them since traction was adequate on these gentle trails. On steeper terrain, I think I would have used my microspikes. Great views of snowy peaks to the north from Shaw and of the Lake to the south from Black Snout. Views back toward where I’d been from the snow free ledges on Turtleback were also great. I was the first on the full length of Black Snout Trail (most people seem to use Mt. Shaw Trail), which was mostly breakable crust, but the snow was still far too shallow for snowshoes.
