 | Comments: |
Donned spikes from door-to-door. You definitely could have made an argument for snowshoes in some spots, but I’m not sure it would have been worth the hassle of carrying them and swapping spikes on and off.
Down low, Ammo is bare-bootable, but why not just put the spikes on? Snow coverage is decent until the section above the Gem Pool. It starts to get very soft at that point. No issue trudging along to treeline.
Heading up Monroe, spikes are fine. Coming off Monroe, and especially coming off Little Monroe, the drifts are pretty intense. We all definitely found ourselves crotch-deep in drifts. Way, way more snow up there than we anticipated.
Trail was pretty solid from Franklin to Eisenhower to Pierce. Some soft snow, but nothing crazy. Crawford Path down Pierce was actually fairly well filled in, and we made great time down it. |
