I hiked the loop counterclockwise, this morning. The whole trail is well broken out, mostly with compressed snow and some icy spots. Microspikes were essential; snowshoes have no role at this time. Fast footing currently, which is great!
Last Monday I worked with the USFS to create an approximately 300’ trail relocation on the east side of the loop, to bypass a perpetually muddy trail section. Unfortunately it was too cold for us to re-blaze (I will do it in the spring!). It looks like our trail relocation is not completely obvious to people, so this morning I spent some time cutting and dragging more branches and logs to block off both ends of the old trail and divert hikers to the new section. Take the new section, folks, it’s not muddy! This relocation is approximately 0.3 miles from the loop junction, on the east side.
I absolutely love this hike and today was a beautiful day for it. 10 degrees at the start, 25 at the finish, light breeze, bright blue skies and white snow. Perfect! |
