More snow than I expected, but it was so wonderful!!! Few inches on the lower trail sections that increased with elevation to around 4-6". So wonderful to be hiking in a winter wonderland. One advantage of all the snow, is the ability to see all the animal activity. I spotted tracks from mice, deer, maybe chipmunk, & of course squirrel (I am sure there were a lot more, but that is all I knew), and we spooked a few grouse.
Bare booted entire hike; more snow needed for snow shoes, especially on the lower rocky section. Steeps getting to the summit and lookouts was not bad. Wandered around the forest to ensure we bagged the summit (high point) before heading back. Views from the lookouts were great, interesting perspective to view the Weeks (north), and then the Presies (south). Will be back to explore many more of these trails!! |
