| Comments: |
Classic shoulder season conditions. Generally took the Black Cap Connector, but also took a portion of the Mason Brook Trail, and two extensions from the end of Thompson Road.
Long stretches of crusty granular, some areas with mud bogs, some black ice, and even a few ice bulges. We were able to bareboot for most of the day, but wore spikes near the top of Black Cap due to the crust not being breakable. Generally a dusting of snow down low and an inch or so higher up. Heard from another hiker that spikes were needed to safely descend Peaked.
Nice weather with clear skies and temperatures warming into the thirties. Only saw one other hiker the whole day. |
