There was black ice on the rocks in lost crossings. I used spikes to cross. |

Beautiful conditions! Microspikes adequate for the ascent (North- clockwise direction), however descent from the South Hancock had more powder over the ice and I switched to trail crampons. Given the ice and grade, I did use my ice axe, although you probably would be fine without it. I have a bad knee, so it’s helpful. Use it if you got it! Lots of ice on the rocks at stream crossings. |
