Comments
Comments: There was very little snow on the ground, but ice on almost the entire route, which made for slow going. We put on microspikes already in the parking lot because of ice on the driveway sloping up from the lot. The lower parts of Falling Waters Trail and Old Bridle Path had a mix of dry rocks and icy patches. At some places the rocks became so bare that we removed our spikes to avoid dulling them, but that was a mistake since icy sections returned quickly, and we ended up slipping on them. We should have kept the spikes on from start to finish. It would be dangerous to venture above treeline at this time of year without bringing full face covering - balaclava and goggles - we used both. Greenleaf Hut is closed for the winter.
